For the last thirty years, Sargam is privileged in associating with and presenting India’s finest artists, from musical legends to budding talents, thereby meeting its objective of creating a greater awareness of India’s cultural heritage. Since its inception in Paris in 1979 and from its London base since 1990, Sargam has organised almost a hundred and thirty tours of classical musicians and dancers.
They have performed, taught and recorded their art through a total of almost five hundred and fifty events comprising recitals, lecture demonstrations, workshops and recordings in numerous European countries and, more recently, in India. Sargam strives thus to be that link between India and Europe by offering all parties the ideal conditions for the propagation of a rich and divine art.

To our artists, who have given us moments of unlimited joy and boundless pride, we express here our immense gratitude. As we do to our promoters throughout Europe and India in conjunction with whom our work has been undertaken.
To you, who are visiting the Sargam website, a warm welcome! Join our mailing, spread the word about us and, above all, attend our events presented by the finest artists India has to offer. We need, and look forward to, your support in our endeavour for a better understanding of India and her diverse cultures.

Lakshmi Shankar characterised music as that "many splendored event' in her life. Over a singing career of more than fifty years, her voice retained, to the very end and as if by divine protection, a radiance and depth of spirituality, a meditative quality that seduced her listeners on several continents. RIP, my very dear Lakshmiji.
